Jonsie Isasmendi

"My artwork conveys a personal and intimate portrait of my interest in nature and humanity. Painted upon reflection of memories, feelings and concerns for our world. My creative process always begins by unleashing a powerful instinctive creative force, followed by consideration of the more formalized elements of an artwork's design. The canvas becomes a place of search and discovery in which the dialogue between both actors, artwork and artist, occurs spontaneously. Always based on nature and it's strengths and vulnerabilities, or humanity and its complexities, my approach to the subject is a parallel construction and deconstruction of layers, shapes and textures.

Even when my last works tend towards abstraction, some drawing is still noticeable. With my art, I aim to transport the viewer to an alternate reality where threads, cracks and creases become symbols for an unseen energy connecting all living things. I hope that my artworks remind their viewers to observe more closely the world around them and find beauty in unusual places. Art, for me, should express emotional and aesthetic appeal to the viewers because

"The work of Jonsie Isasmendi invites us to immerse ourselves into a world of sensations. Her visual search is, in fact, a personal search: threads that connect, that connect us, that connect her. Cracks that open within  imaginary abstract landscapes. The reading is always subjective,

just like life itself.

Isasmendi raises the presence of a superior force that locates and sustains us in reality, reality as a setting for the imagination. Or, imagination as a support for reality? The artistic journey Isasmendi takes us on, places us somewhere between the sublime and that reality."

Testimonials

Magdalena Roccatagliata

"I was able to observe Jonsie Isasmendi's potential while she attended art lessons under my guidance in Buenos Aires. A deep bond and appreciation of her native land, Salta, was consistently the focus of her paintings: "...an exploration of the human being and his environment". It was that focal subject, in my opinion, that she has maintained as the deeply rooted basis upon which she has built her process into abstraction.  Rich chromatic and suggestive drawing is still strongly evident in her artwork. Art, whilst an important component of culture, behaves as a mirror that reflects times and its complexities.  Nowadays, in a  turbulent "chiaroscuro" of virtues and vileness, artists like Isasmendi clearly identify themselves. No doubt she speaks of a nourished inner world still not contaminated by the confusion of difficult present times."
